Butyrate: The Clean Growth Promoter

Butyrate is a scientifically established essential ingredient to stimulate the development, integrity and normal function of the gut. Furthermore, in calves rumen development is stimulated by using butyrate in the starter feed.

Butyrate is a key energy source for the intestinal villi and rumen papillae, and plays a vital role in balancing a healthy intestinal flora. Butyrate promotes growth, feed efficiency and directly beneficially stimulates the immune system. In this way, butyrate functions as a natural growth promoter.

Balanced intestinal flora and good gut health strengthens the gut defensive barrier. In addition, together with butyrate’s direct positive effect on the immune system, this means butyrate makes the animal more resistant to pathogens.

Although the value of butyric acid is well established, it cannot be applied directly due to volatility and smell. This is why Palital formulates butyric acid into butyrate salts, and subsequently into suitable feed ingredients.
