AveMix® XG 10 – The optimal solution for decreasing feed costs
Enzymes targeting NSP fibers
Fibrous feed ingredients contain anti-nutritional factors such as insoluble and soluble non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) fibers. Monogastric animals do not produce enzymes capable of digesting these NSP fibers, and this can result in significantly decreased performance as well as health problems. To overcome this issue, Palital has developed AveMix® XG 10.
AveMix® XG 10 is a guaranteed combination of endo-1,4-β-xylanase and endo-1,3(4)-β-glucanase activities, to target both arabinoxylan and glucan NSP fibers. Further details on the mechanism and mode of action of AveMix® XG 10 can be read here.
Enzymes targeting NSP fibers can be applied in the diet in two ways: ‘on-top’ of the feed or with feed reformulation. Palital has demonstrated the benefits of
AveMix® XG 10 in numerous pig and poultry field and university trials. Examples of trials with an ‘on-top’ application can be read here.
In this article, insight is given into the findings of a recent piglet trial, performed by Groupe Cérès Inc in Canada, which used AveMix® XG 10 with a feed reformulation approach.
AveMix® XG 10 for better performance and economic income
A 47 day piglet trial was performed using 1092 piglets (6.0 kg), which were allocated into 3 groups (n=364) taking into account weaning weight and gender: positive control, negative control and negative control + AveMix® XG 10.
The positive control group only received the basal diets. The negative control group received reformulated diets which, relative to the basal diets, had a higher average content of corn (+1.9%) along with a lower average content of soybean meal (-0.35%) and oil + fat blend (-1.3%). Therefore, the diets of the negative control group had a lower average content of crude fat (-1.2%), digestible lysine (-0.03%) and net energy (-56 kcal/kg feed) relative to the positive control group basal diets. This reformulation was based on the diet specific matrix values of AveMix® XG 10. The NSP fiber content of the positive and negative control diets was similar with an average of 11.4% NSP fibers. The negative control + AveMix® XG 10 group received the reformulated diets with supplementation of 100 ppm of AveMix® XG 10.

The reformulated negative control diets decreased piglet performance compared to the positive control, as shown by the decreased growth rate, decreased final piglet weight and increased feed conversion ratio (Figure 1). However, the inclusion of
AveMix® XG 10 enables the compensation of the challenging lack of energy by increasing the feed intake and growth rate whilst decreasing the feed conversion ratio (Figure 1). Together, this resulted in a significant increase in final weight (29.4 kg).
Moreover, this trial showed a positive impact of AveMix® XG 10 on piglets’ health. The inclusion of AveMix® XG 10 tended to decrease medical treatments and the cost of medication by -0.51 € compared to the negative control group. There were no significant diet related effects on diarrhea scores or piglet mortality, which were both very low during the trial.

Finally, fattening pig net profit was calculated as outlined in Table 1. AveMix® XG 10 enabled a higher net profit per pig of 0.85 €, making the use of AveMix® XG 10 a profitable investment.

In conclusion, this trial clearly demonstrates the benefits of AveMix® XG 10 on pig performance and profit margins. The action of AveMix® XG 10 on NSP fibers increases nutrient digestibility and can compensate for a lower energy and digestible amino acid content when using a reformulation approach.
